What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a noninvasive complementary practice which uses thumb and finger techniques to stimulate specific reflex points in the feet and hands which in turn stimulate the body’s parts and systems to assist in relieving stress, detoxing, bringing balance and helping the healing process. Your body is made to work hard to keep you healthy. Reflexology encourages it to do so.
It is very relaxing and helps stimulate your body to improve circulation, boost your immune system, improve lymphatic flow, and increase your body’s detoxification processes. As you have sessions, you may find you have more energy, sleep better, and have less pain, as well as have a wide range of other symptoms improved or relieved. In addition, it is extremely relaxing and feels great!
Reflexology is very safe and beneficial for people of all ages. I am also certified in aromatherapy and was taught the Zollinger method of reflexology using essential oils to enhance the experience. Sessions can be performed with or without essential oils at the client’s discretion.
Experience reflexology and relax, balance, heal, and enjoy!
A Brief History of Reflexology
It is believed that some form of reflexology was practiced in ancient China, Egypt, and by Native Americans. Drawings of people working on hands and feet along with possible tools were even found in the tombs of ancient Egyptian doctors.
The more recent path of reflexology goes back to 1771, when Johann August Unzer first used the word “reflex” to refer to motor reactions. From there over the years, much has been discovered concerning reflexes and how stimulating one part of the body can affect other parts. Modern Reflexology owes much to the work of Dr. William Fitzgerald, Dr. Joe Shelby, and Eunice Ingham.
Dr. Fitzgerald is credited with being the father of “Zone Therapy” dividing the body into ten vertical zones in the early 1900’s. These zones continue to the feet and hands with 5 zones in each one. He found that if pressure were applied to certain areas, sensations in other specific areas in the same zone were deadened.
Dr Riley was trained by Dr. Fitzgerald and further developed his work. He added eight horizontal divisions to the zones of the hands and feet showing that the reflexes found on the feet and hands follow the anatomy of the body. He also developed a manual hooking technique for applying pressure.
Eunice Ingham worked for Dr. Riley and continued to refine his findings. She discovered that alternating pressure, rather than having a numbing effect actually stimulated healing.
Since its emergence (or reemergence) research and studies have followed. The longest ongoing clinical use of reflexology was started in 1978 at the Rehabilitation Center for Neurological Development in Piqua, Ohio and continues today. There are well over 300 studies internationally on reflexology and its impact. It is funded by two research grants by the National Cancer Institute and is recognized by NCCIH (National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health) as a separate integrative therapy. It is popular in many countries around the world and is steadily growing in popularity in the USA.
There are many worldwide organizations as well as several highly respected organizations in the US promoting high standards and the growth of reflexology, including: ARCB , RAA , and NCRE . These are exciting times for complementary modalities as people are rediscovering the great value they have in safely helping your body function as it was created to. Reflexology is an amazing and extremely relaxing healing art form that has stood the test of time, and I am privileged to practice it.

Articles About Reflexology
Reflexology has many benefits with very few contraindications.
The first 2 articles below lists contraindications (second is more detailed). Most of the them are because reflexology helps circulation and lymphatic flow. If you are pregnant or have a condition, please consult your doctor before booking a session as it is a good idea to keep your doctor abreast of your complimentary practices.
There are many more benefits to reflexology and many more articles, so if you have a particlular condition or questions, please contact me or go online and investigate how you can benefit from sessions.
Client Testimonials
Don’t take our word for it – here’s what our clients say:
REFLEXOLOGY is the best thing I have ever done. My doctors took me off my arthritis meds because it was causing complications. I can’t take anything for the pain. My body has been hurting all over and I have just had to live with it. I woke this morning in NO PAIN. I feel 20 years old and going dancing tonight. This was my first session and I am 100% sold on it.
